Rancilio HSD-SILVIA Silvia Espresso Machine Review
Everything about the Rancilio was designed with ergonomics and convenience in mind. All of the controls are easy to access, and it takes just six minutes to brew your first shot.
With a stainless steel housing, the Silvia looks sleek and complements any home decor. Standing at 13.3 inches tall, this espresso maker won’t take up much room on your counter. It’s a little heavy at 30.8 pounds, but still lighter than larger, bulkier espresso makers.
The Silvia brews an authentic shot of espresso thanks to the 15 bars of pressure. With a group head that is commercial grade, this machine maintains excellent, even heating and offers premium extraction quality.
The 58mm portafilter features an ergonomic handle and delivers a shot of espresso that’s on par with the espresso you’d find in Italian cafés. These are the very same porta filters that Rancilio uses in its commercial machines.
The Silvia also boasts a 2 quart water reservoir that can easily be removed and refilled anytime during the operation.
One of our favorite features of this espresso machine is the steam wand, which allows you to brew cappuccinos, lattes and other coffeehouse drinks right in your own home. The wand actually offers a 360 degree swivel rotation, so you can steam milk off to the side of the machine or right on top of the drip plate – it’s up to you.
The steam knob is commercially designed and allows you to control the pressure of the steam. This is an important feature, and one you don’t find often on personal espresso machines.
With commercial quality brewing, a high-capacity boiler, and a durable design, the Silvia truly is an investment in the best home espresso machine. The only thing you have to do is invest in a high quality coffee grinder.
- Easy to use
- Authentic espresso taste
- Steam wand allows you to make coffeehouse drinks
- Large water tank that’s easy to refill
- Quick brewing time
It’s true that the Silvia is more costly than other espresso makers. However, this is a quality machine that will last you years – maybe decades – with proper care. Plus, it brews a mean shot of espresso.
We loved everything about the Silvia except for the high cost. But quality comes at a price – right? If you’re looking for a machine that brews authentic espresso, the Silvia is an excellent choice.
