Gaggia 14101 Classic Espresso Machine Review

Featuring a 17 1/2 bar pump, the 14101 Classic produces shots that are on par with what you’ll get in a café or coffee shop. And Gaggia includes both a single- and double-shot filter basket that’s stainless-steel, so you can choose to brew one or two shots at a time.

Part of the reason why this machine produces such great espresso is because of its brass grouphead and portafilters. Brass allows for better temperature stability, so your espresso is always brewed at the perfect temperature. And the coffee machine’s housing is made of stainless steel, which further adds to the temperature stability – and makes the machine so easy to clean.

The portafilter is easy to clean, too, and the used coffee pucks come out dry every time.

The 14101 also comes with a hot water dispenser and frothing wand for making cappuccinos and lattes. We do have to note that this model does not come with a frothing pitcher. You’ll need to purchase one separately.

Gaggia also includes a tamper and measuring scoop, so you’ll have everything you need to start using the machine right away.

What We Liked

  • Easy to use
  • Brews authentic-tasting espresso
  • Frothing wand allows you to make cappuccinos and lattes
  • Commercial-grade quality construction

What Could Have Been Better

  • Cup size is limited
  • Frothing wand could be better
The main issue we had with this machine was that the cup size is limited. You’ll only be able to fit short cups under the drip, so if you plan on making lattes or cappuccinos, make sure that you have the appropriate sized cups.

The frothing wand can be a little tedious to use, but we were able to whip up some fantastic coffeehouse drinks once we got the hang of using it.

The Gaggia 14101 truly is a classic espresso machine with a commercial machine look. It’s easy to use, won’t take up much space on your counter, and gives you the option to create cappuccinos and lattes with relative ease. Just make sure that you have enough short cups if you want to make coffeehouse drinks, and be patient when learning to use the frothing wand.

If you’re looking for a commercial quality machine that is easy to use and affordably priced, we highly recommend the 14101. It brews delicious espresso, and you can rest assured that you’re getting a durable machine that’s built to last.
