De’Longhi EC680 Dedica Review

The EC680 comes with everything you need in the box, minus the actual espresso and cups, you’ll need for brewing. Inside, you’ll find the following:

  • Coffee scoop
  • Coffee tamper
  • Filter holder
  • Descale fluid (mini)

The top of the machine has a grate-like texture, and this is where you’ll want to place your cups prior to making your espresso. Why? Because this is where the built-in cup warmer is located. Why do you need a cup warmer?

When you warm your cup, it ensures a steady espresso temperature.

The front of the machine has three illuminated buttons that allow you to choose what type of brew you want to make. Thermo block technology allows the machine to heat up and produce steaming hot espresso in 40 seconds. Internal temperatures are set to 190 F – the ideal temperature for espresso brewing.

With 15 bar pressure, you’ll get the same quality espresso you would expect from a barista.

If you want to brew a Ristretto or Luongo, simply hold down the button to customize the brew time setting. It’s the perfect level of convenience built into an espresso maker that is small and compact.

Note: A manual pull will set the internal timer to remember this pull for each new brew.

Two jets will deliver the espresso into your cup, and you’ll be able to drink a bold, full-flavored espresso right in the comfort of your own home.

A manual cappuccino system allows you to make a rich and creamy frothed milk. Simply add water and milk into the system, and it will keep temperatures to a safe level as it froths the milk for you. This is the perfect choice for a cappuccino.

You can use the frothing system with just water if you want a quick cup of hot tea.

Pros

  • Allows for single and double shots.
  • Fast heating time.
  • Large reservoir and compact design allow for simple brewing.
  • Perfect brewing temperature for espresso.
  • Comes with all of the extras needed for a perfect espresso.
  • Steam wand produces delicious foam.

Cons

  • Manual brews set the internal timer with no reset option.

My only complaint during my De’Longhi EC680 Dedica review was when I tried the manual pull. This is when you hold down the brewing button to adjust the time the machine brews. What happens is that the machine will set the internal time to your pull times, altering every subsequent shot time as a result.

Remedying this problem requires another pull, and trial and error.

I wish there was a reset button so that I could enjoy the optimized internal espresso timer without having to perform another pull. With that said, you do have the convenience of choosing your own brew time, which is a nice addition for an espresso maker.

The EC680 offers a beautiful exterior, small footprint and the perfect frothing system. With 15 bar pressure and a thermo heating block, you’ll experience barista quality espresso in the comfort of your home.
