Breville ESP8XL Café Roma Espresso Maker Review
Breville decided that they would include everything you need to make espresso – aside from the grinds. They even included a frother jug and two stainless steel espresso cups for you to use.
Placing the cup on the top of the machine will allow the cups to heat up as you pour water into the water container. You’ll be able to see the water level on the side of the machine without having to take it apart in the process.
The light indicators tell you when the machine is preparing and ready for brewing.
Snapping your filter in place, you’ll quickly be able to start the brewing process. Simply add in your grinds, and turn the dial on the front of the machine to espresso. Once brewed, you’ll notice a nice crema on top of your espresso.
The frother is also a great addition and will allow you to make microfoam, froth which is the optimal option for users. Utilizing a dual-wall design, the milk for the froth and the espresso making process will not interfere with each other at all.
Two filters, a scoop and a frother jug are included for you to begin making espresso.
When espresso drips while the cup isn’t in place – it will happen – the drip tray will catch the drip, so it doesn’t end up on your counters. You can quickly remove the drip tray when you’re done so that it can be easily cleaned.
- 15-bar pressure allows for the utmost in flavor
- Easy, intuitive design allows for easy espresso making
- Dual-wall filter allows for espresso and froth to be made easily
- Stainless steel design ensures easy cleaning
- Filter clogs easily
The filter will clog if your grinds are not ground to espresso fine consistency. This shouldn’t be much of an issue, but if you like using regular coffee grounds, you’ll spend a long time trying to unclog the filter. Once you’re past that small mishap, the machine does provide a great tasting espresso with a nice crema on top.
Flavor is fully dependent on the tampering process. If you don’t tamper enough, the espresso will be weak – and you don’t want that.
This is a no frills machine. This means that you’ll need to take care of the fine details when making espresso, such as tampering. It will be well worth the effort once you find the perfect tamp for your tastes.
While the filter does clog, the flavor that the ESP8XL offers is exceptional. And the crema produced is just as good. If you don’t mind experimenting with the tampering process, this is the right espresso maker for you, and it’s very affordable.
