BELLA 13683 Espresso Maker Review
During my review of the BELLA 13683, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this model. Most low-priced models have issues with leaking, or producing very acidic or poor tasting espresso. But this model was pleasantly surprising.
It’s the perfect balance between affordability and taste.
And you will be able to create great-tasting froth if you’re a cappuccino drinker. It’s a great little machine that takes a little while to get used to.
The top of the machine is a bit bulky, but this is due to the steam pressurized safety cap. All of the necessary parts are removable, including the drip tray, and can easily be placed in the dishwasher for easy cleaning.
BELLA doesn’t state how hot the espresso temperature is internally, but I would say that it’s slightly above the 190 F mark – the ideal temperature for espresso. But don’t worry: the taste is still surprisingly great.
You’ll be brewing espresso into the included carafe that has a total holding capacity of 4 shots of espresso.
The filter and carafe snap snug into the machine, and the carafe has a side spout for easy pouring. With a twist of your wrist, you’ll be able to pour the espresso with ease. One thing that I did want to note is that the carafe keeps any remaining brew nice and warm, so it’s well worth the extra effort of pouring the coffee out of the carafe into your cup.
If you and another person like to drink espresso, you never have to wait for both shots to be done before drinking – the carafe is large enough for the whole family to have a delicious shot.
After you’ve filled up the metal basket with coffee grounds, you just need to flip the switch to “brew,” and the orange light will indicate that the brewing process has started. When the steam fills up, you’ll also be able to make delicious froth to go on your cappuccino or espresso.
Cleanup is a breeze as you can quickly rinse all of the parts, or you can put them in the dishwasher.
- Great tasting espresso
- Carafe keeps espresso warm
- Froth system works great
- Very affordable
- Brewing cycle is a little strange
The brewing cycle is based off of the pressurized system, so it’s a little different having to wait for the pressure chamber to heat up with steam. Aside from this, you’ll find that the brewing process isn’t too hard to learn, and the taste is exceptional for an at-home shot of espresso.
With easy cleanup and a terrific froth system, BELLA has developed one of the best, most affordable espresso makers on the market.
